A fascination with the processes, rhythms and cycles found within the natural world, and the imagery of musical instruments inspires my paintings more than anything. Within this context of rhythms and cycles, I am deeply influenced by music and create my pieces not unlike the process of musical composition, focusing on rhythm, color and tone. The concept of automatic painting, also known as surrealist automatism, as it relates to creating paintings is of interest to me and also plays a role in many of my pieces. I work primarily in watercolor and acrylic, and occasionally in oil for painting, and India ink with watercolors for illustrations.
